‘FINE’- THE NEW RELEASE FROM EMILY DAYE
Get ready for something fun and nostalgic from Emily Daye. The singer songwriter has released her new single, ‘Fine’, which will also be debuting on her album, ‘Daybreak’.
Written during good ol’ lockdown, this song recalls the songwriter’s time in lockdown as she “wakes up at the wrong side of bed,” walks around the house in “trackies and uggboots,” and passing time scrolling through her phone looking at memes of a life that is completely different to days spent talking to a wall.
The title of the song, ‘Fine’ is a cynical description of her time during lockdown as the track is very reminiscent to grungy songs from the 2000’s that everybody loves to sing along to. The slurred out words heavily influences this idea of an early 2000’s song too, pulling from that idea of a laid back way of delivering a message through song. It’s almost like Emily is talking throughout the song, rather than singing specific, melodically created lyrics. This again lends itself to that very easy going, conversational idea. The rhythmic section of Fine is also, in a way conversational. The rhythmic section complements Emily so well, reciprocating and mirroring her melodic lines. It’s a solid combination of everything you would expect from a folk-pop song, it’s catchy and there’s something to love in every verse and chorus.
Based in Melbourne, the acoustic folk-pop musician has an extensive background in music, with her first EP released back in 2019. Since then, Emily has released singles over 2020 and will be soon releasing her first album. The singer songwriter has such a distinctive sound when it comes to her style, giving her even more of an edge to her soft grungy tunes.
