vulnerable, the debut EP from Peter Ho.

With 2021 done and dusted, there’s no better way for an artist to start the new year with some new sounds. Released on the 31st of December, singer-songwriter Peter Ho has come out with a down right beautiful EP titled ‘vulnerable.’ It’s one of those EP’s that amplifies all the feels, you know, the whole “I need to get lost in music and feel everything I can possibly feel” feels.

After the successful release of single, ‘i’m done.’ in 2019, followed by ‘energy’ and ‘waiting’ in 2021, this is Peter’s first EP, marking a special moment in the young artist’s musical career. The 22 year old singer/songwriter and producer is from Melbourne, and is also a full-time final year dental student placed in regional Victoria. The artist has the tricky task of having to to unpack and pack his studio every few months when he moves to a new area. Most of Peter’s spare time is used to produce and write music in his bedroom, especially after a long and stressful week of seeing patients.

Longer than the traditional EP, 'vulnerable features 6 tracks, all sharing some sweet familiarities including melodic guitar lines, mellow beats and soothing vocals.  The overall vibe from this new EP is chill, an easy listen on any day or night of the week when you’re wanting to get out of your head and into a blissful, numb state. It’s a treat to listen to an EP that tells a story and has a clear theme that flows from one track to another and Peter has defiantly nailed that. The clarity that courses through this EP is great, everything is so well balanced and melts effortlessly together into one great body of work.

Being vulnerable with my emotions, friends and family has always been something I've struggled with growing up. I used to bottle up a lot of my negative emotions and not really deal with any issues I had. Staying positive and portraying a happy face was how I coped with a lot of my own issues, and it was tiring. It was only until recently when a family member ended up in hospital that my capacity to deal with these issues alone was surpassed, and for what felt like the first time I took the courage to open up to my friends. This experience was as daunting as it was freeing. And this feeling of being heard and free was the inspiration behind the EP that I ended up writing - an ode to everybody out there who feels scared to be vulnerable; whether it be to their friends, family or themselves. I wrote the songs with my guitar on my days off, and produced the songs on the weekends. It took me such a long time to figure out how I wanted the EP to sound and feel, but I'm really proud of how it turned out. I hope there's a song in there that touches you in some way.”- Peter Ho

The real stand out quality in this EP, as featured in all of Peter’s earlier releases, is the rawness. Listening to each song in detail, you really gather a great deal of clarity into the headspace from which these songs were written in. With all featured 6 songs talking about themes including relationships, friends, and personal struggles, it’s 100% relatable and will strike a chord with everyone who presses play. ‘nightmare’ in particular is a really beautiful song, and this may be because I’m personally a sucker for harmonies, but the layering of Peter’s vocals in this track in particular is so tasteful and well produced.
