JASPERJ RELEASES DEBUT ALBUM ‘WISH’
A well-constructed debut album containing 13 touching moments about self-worth and discovery.
With his unique style and voice, JasperJ moves in a particular kind of way. After coming out as a trans man, JasperJ is someone who is now fuelled by confidence. An artist armed with self-assurance and a flare for jazz infused pop-based music, the eccentric producer based in Melbourne, Victoria, is truly something special.
As an alternative indie musician, Jasper pushes boundaries both personally and musically. For the longest time, Jasper found it extremely difficult to come to terms with how he felt and as a result, believed that he couldn’t speak openly about the issues he was facing. Soon enough, Jasper found himself in writing his debut album ‘Wish’ in which his voice, finally came to fruition.
Speaking on the album, Jasper states “In a way, this album is very cathartic. I feel free to finally voice what I don’t say, and “Wish” to me, is a big release. Giving me energy that I never thought I’d have so I can start turning wishes and dreams into actions”.
From start to finish, Jasper’s writing is clear and well thought out, given how personal the songwriting is to him. With a clear aim and purpose, Jasper’s artistry truly shines through.
Tracks such as ‘Fire ’n’ Ice’, ‘Awkward’, and ‘Dear Future Lover’ show a vast range of creative songwriting sequences through well-demonstrated harmonies. Great choices of melodic chord progressions are also shown that are catchy and desirable in tone and style. On the song ‘Turtle In The Sky’ Jasper delivers a brilliant vocal performance filled with so much emotion and delivery with other notable mentions such as ‘Intro: Awe’, ‘an interlude of sorts (What A Wintry Night Means To Me)’ and ‘Ponder’ equally matching in performance and passion.
Jasper’s fun and quirky style allows for versatility within his songwriting capabilities. Whilst being ambitious in nature, Jasper’s natural alignment with diversity is what creates more memorable moments within the album. Tracks like ‘Wannabe’, ‘You’re Worth Everything’, ‘When I Was With You’ are filled with colour which helps convey Jasper’s gravitation towards Jazz and Pop, with ‘Even You Get Drawn’ and the self-titled track ‘Wish’ being the strongest lyrically.
‘Outro: Selfish’ the Album’s final track is the perfect ending, to the first chapter in Jasper’s story. A song centered on growth and the desire to be the person one inspires to be, shows Jasper finally seeing the value in himself as a person. The Album’s history, when considering Jasper’s story, is truly inspiring. JasperJ’s desire, to just be himself is what helps create these key specific moments within his songwriting. The genuine feeling’s of emotional storytelling from start to finish.
