SINGLE REVIEW - LEO NAZZ ‘I WANTED TO BE HONEST’
An open letter to an old flame ‘I wanted to be honest’ is a healing tool for heartache.
Written in search of some clarity on a past relationship comes a story based upon self reflection. Learning to deal with heartache through the process of moving on (even though it can be the hardest part), comes ‘I wanted to be honest.’ A genuine open wave of emotion filled with bluesy grooves and country rock, the track twangs nicely amongst a raw and honest vocal performance by Leo Nazz.
"It was one of the most passionate and sensual relationships I've ever had,” says Nazz. “As intense as our affair was, it ended very suddenly and unresolved. I didn't get the chance to say certain things that I wanted to say to her and so writing this song was a way of letting go and moving on.”
As an emerging singer/songwriter from the northern suburbs of Melbourne, Leo Nazz uses his songwriting abilities to create relatable memoirs through emotive lyricism and imagery, with ‘I wanted to be honest’ being a strong testimonial to this.
Speaking on his upcoming debut EP as a further collection of semi-autobiographical stories due for release later this year, Nazz states "I'm one of you, we are all in this life together, we shall not lose heart & we shall be alright". The level of generosity, that appears to be shown through his willingness to share stories about personal matters like ‘I wanted to be honest’ helps bridge the gap between imagery and lyricism.
The use of melodramatic chord progressions and perfectly toned guitars, creates a certain sharpness, with a real punch that helps balance the contrast in dynamics and song structure.
