NEW SINGLE RELEASE- HIGHER PLACES ‘STILL HALF IN LOVE’
Higher Places new release ‘Still Half in Love’ is an excellent addition to the indie/electro pop artist’s repretoire. A nostalgic exploration of a feeling that many know so well, the song explores the concepts of a broken relationship.
A truly beautiful track in every aspect from the production to the lyrics topped with an excellent vocal performance. We know that this new track will leave many wanting more. Not only is Hamish the mastermind behind Higher Places, but he also is working on another project Audition Tape as well as touring with various artists such as Allday and Japanese Wallpaper.
Through these experiences, Hamish has been able to employ the talents of these artists to elevate his Higher Places project, with Gab Strum (Japanese Wallpaper) co-producing this new song. The former triple j unearthed winner’s stamp is all over this song blending with Hamish’s talents to create this great blend of indie rock and electro pop. With glittery synths showering over the shimmering guitars the song has a great melancholic feeling that flows throughout the track progression. Especially as the track comes to a close and vocals fade out leaving you with drums and the consistent synths that wave over you allowing you to process the song.
This is paired with a great vocal performance from Hamish as his beautiful inflections and emotions complement the vocals alongside the brilliant production in a way that does not overshadow or take precedence before the other. For fans of artist such as Wallows or Mac Demarco, there is a great similarity between these vocal performances, with a relaxed, light sound that caresses the track, it is a correlation follows on to the lyrics themselves. Beautifully written by Hamish the feelings that often we can’t put words to, or not want to admit are layed bare in this track. Hamish had this to say about his inspiration for the track.
“During the early stages of COVID lockdowns, my long-term ex-partner and I separated on good terms. I found the period immediately afterwards really hard - we talked every day and were as close as ever, but our relationship had obviously fundamentally changed. I wrote this when trying to process all of this - it’s about knowing that some of your feelings are still there, but that it can’t be the way it was, as much as part of you might still want that.”
