‘ARE THE ANGELS’- DEBUT SINGLE BY KAYLAH THOMAS

Everyone loves a song that they can play when they need to just escape, and Kaylah Thomas’ debut single, ‘Are The Angels’ will transport you far away from wherever you are.

The 19 year old singer-songwriter has released nothing less than a heart gripping, emotion evoking song that explores the realness of what love, loss and grief feels and sounds like.

As a debut single, Kaylah Thomas has most definitely marked her spot in the music community, with emotion provoking lyrics and a professional, polished sound, she’s one to watch for future releases to come in 2022.

Although young, Kaylah has an impressive background in music. Having been a Principal Vocalist in the Victorian State Schools Spectacular in 2018, 2019 and 2020, the singer-songwriter has been fortunate enough to perform in Hisense Arena to a live audience of 14,000 and broadcast to a national TV audience, which is nothing short of incredible. Not only does Kaylah have an exceptional background in the music industry, she also has a fiery passion and love for music and uses her skills to transform words into deep and powerful lyrics. Are The Angels sounds like poetry with an underlay of rhythmic magic, and in my humble opinion, I believe this is what makes this debut single that much better. Lyrics that are raw and real translate so well and Kaylah has managed to hit deep with her words.

To me, Are The Angles is a song that explores the entangled relationship between love and loss. I’ve tried to capture these contrasting emotions to show the true brutality of grief. This song was the first-ever song of mine that I’ve ever felt emotively driven to complete. It was primarily inspired from a place of observation, observing a community grieve. So I put myself in the place of others who were suffering, and the lyrics represent how I can only imagine feeling. This song took me some time to complete. I’m a perfectionist, and I think it’s taken me a while to get to where I am now. I feel very honoured this year to have worked with a producer from South Gippsland, Greg J. Walker. He really helped me bring the story to the surface, and I’m so grateful for his effort on this song. Like all musicians, there’s always something to improve on- but I’m proud of my first effort, and I look forward to the others to come. I hope this song continues the conversation around mental health, and lastly, I hope it acts as a reminder that life is precious- so we need to love every moment .”- Kaylah Thomas

Are The Angels reminds me of a song that you would typically hear Birdy or Lana Del Ray sing, as it has a real sweetness to it that is not only translated through the softness of the overall song, but the tone of Kaylah’s vocals. It was great to hear the song move from this delicate, innocent sound to something fuller and more powerful as the song progressed. The debut single really takes you on a journey, both rhythmically and melodically, with an effortless flow from start to finish. The layering of harmonies and rhythmic build that comes into play at the chorus assists in amplifying the intensity of the overall emotive characteristics of the song and ties the whole piece together so well.

Are The Angels is now available on all major streaming services, including the RSOM Spotify playlist. And just to add one more piece of goodness, Kaylah will be releasing an EP in 2022, so make sure to follow her to keep up to date with her musical journey.
