A well executed single launch sees ‘December’ shine in what was a rising moment for the up and coming alt-indie singer-songwriter Maddy Petch.

On a cold Thursday night in North Richmond, The Leadbeater Hotel hosted another wholesome night of live music as Maddy Petch celebrated her debut single, ‘December.’ With special guests Hassall and Holly Hebe, the night gave each artist the time to share and connect with the audience in what was a moment of professionalism from the trio of ladies.

Opening the night with ‘I Feel So Cool,’ Holly Hebe was a highlight with her beautiful voice and elegant piano playing. Her lyricism and strong demand for softness and emotion adds a sense of maturity to her song-writing with ‘Hard Pill To Swallow’ provoking heartache with the line, “Your the traffic in my mind but you leave me at the lights.”

With her friend Will on keys, Hassall then took centre stage with ‘Bad Boy,’ a strong and powerful opener that was certainly one of the more memorable songs performed throughout the night. With her charm and witty sense of humour, Hassall’s fun personality really resonates within her writing. With songs like ‘Lease For Life’ - a song about her house that she loves, even though it’s falling apart, and ‘Mr Therapist’ - a story about her therapist who she thought was a guy named Chris, but really was just short for Christine. The pair also shared amazing chemistry on stage and more from the two of them them would be great in the future.

The crowd grew with excitement as they eagerly awaited for the headliner and her band to begin their performance. From the start it was clear the band had a fantastic rhythm section which really drove the song ‘Right Lane’ - a fun and sombre opener from start to finish. Showcasing their range of dynamic and tone, the band performed ‘Elliot’s Song,’ a very personal memento that built dramatically with large crescendos and spacious tones. Performing a cover of Lauren Ruth Ward’s, ‘Did I Offend You’ further cemented the band’s cohesiveness with a loud and heavy upbeat performance that resonated throughout the room convincingly. Ending with her debut single, ‘December’ Maddy welcomed the audience to sing alongside her as the song kicked into gear. A surf rock feel filled with great transitions, fun and groovy drum patterns, crisp lead guitar lines compiled together with compelling song writing choices that showcase the bands eagerness to write and perform with excitement and creativity.

A true pleasure to see live, be sure to check out Maddy Petch and her single ‘December’ on our RSOM Presents Spotify playlist as well as checking out Hassall and Holly Hebe in the links below!
