COCONUT SHY RELEASES NEWEST SINGLE, ‘WATER WATER’
Melbourne based singer-songwriter, Coconut Shy released his newest single ‘Water Water’ on the 14th of October and it’s giving all the fresh summer vibes. Featuring smooth guitar lines, vibrant shakers and clean vocals, Coconut Shy’s latest single really does give listeners the chance to close their eyes and drift away into a sweet sense of bliss.
‘Water Water’ has a great instrumental foundation, with each instrument holding down an important melodic stance within the song. The soft bongo sounding drums featured prominently in the beginning of track highlights that ‘island’ vibe right from the get go. It’s relaxed, easy and sweet, the perfect trio to have wrap up in on track. As the song progresses, the instrumental melodic lines play a huge part in how ‘Water Water’ progresses, telling a story each time a new instrument is added or faded out. Coconut Shy has done a really great job at highlighting each section of the track with the addition of layers and movement.
Elaborating from this, the vocals in the song are also well mixed and delivered. Coconut Shy’s vibrato goes a long way, as it’s incredibly fluid and strong throughout the chorus. Counteracting this is the spoken quality of the vocals in the versus and the bridge, giving more dynamic and creating a greater overall sound to ‘Water Water’.
The main highlight from ‘Water Water; is how well minimalism was incorporated and utilised. There were no harmonies featured for the vocals or instrumental lines, no vocal layers and nothing was over produced and or saturated. The track simply flowed like water and stayed clean and refreshing from start to end. It really is refreshing to here a song that isn’t too much, it’s just simple.
