“These are things that a muso has to save for years for financially,” Ella explains. Exposure is another invaluable opportunity that one will receive if they are crowned the winner. “Your name gets mentioned in circles that it normally wouldn’t be, and you get to meet and work alongside big players in the music industry.” Ella had a similar experience herself when she was given the opportunity to record in a studio at a very young age of 13. It was through this that she entered a song on Triple J UnEarthed where she had won.

From Violet Town, situated in country Victoria, to the big city of Melbourne, Ella and her band were playing in front of bigger audiences leading to her band being discovered by their manager. The year after would see the band Killing Heidi touring in the States.“You never know when one stepping stone is going to lead to another.”So, what happens next?

Twelve finalists will be selected and the decision for the final 4 will be left in the hands of the public. So, if you are not a music maker but a music lover, this is your chance to get involved.

The winner will then be chosen by a panel of judges who have been selected based on their expertise and connections to the music industry ranging from musicians to community radio broadcasters as well as A&R experts.

The grand final will be on Wednesday 29th October at the Melbourne Recital Centre and it will be open to the public. There is absolutely no harm in entering, after all, it is all for the experience, right? Ella urges anyone at any age and level to enter.
